Acceptable Use Policy

There are very few conditions to being a member of the Notepad Web Ring, and these are outlined as follows:

  • A site will only be added to the ring once the correct procedures laid out in the 'Adding your site' page have been completed. The Ring Masters will know within a maximum of two days if your site is acceptable, and then add you to the ring.

  • The member must display the Notepad Web Ring graphic and code as part of their web page. The graphic must be none other than that set out by the Ring Masters, or any which have been officially used in the past.

  • The advertisement for the Ring has to be placed either on the 'Home' page, or in a position which is easily accessable from the 'Home' page of your site. We recommend a link such as "Web Rings" or "Made with Notepad." If you do not want to alter your site to suit this condition, then we suggest you change the URL we have on record for your site to the page displaying the banner, and that page containing a link to your homepage.

  • The Ring Masters may remove a site from the ring, outright if:
  • The content is considered offensive and/or illegal in the opinion of all the Ring Masters

The page no longer exists or no longer contains the banner advertisement for the Notepad Web Ring

The member does not adhere to the terms and conditions set herein.
Sites dealt with in this manner will be put 'On hold' and the owner given a set amount of time (to be discussed with them) to correct their site and let it be approved by all the Ring Masters. When Approved, we will re-submit the site on the owner's behalf. The owner's Site ID will remain unaltered.

  • A site can be removed democratically:
  • If the offending site is brought to the attention of the Ring Masters by a member, where the pages contain material which is not covered by the 'Instant removal' (above) and all the Ring Masters agree on a democratic vote between the members. At this point, each member of the ring will be contacted to cast their vote. It will be a 'Yes' or a 'No' outcome as to whether to remove the site, depending on the majority vote.

We understand that many of you will be wondering about the recent events concerning Geocities sites on the Ring. The Ring Masters have discussed this in detail, and are at the conclusion that NO GEOCITIES SITES WILL BE EXCLUDED from this Ring (other than those breaking the conditions of the AUP)

The theory behind the Notepad Web Ring is the sharing of creativeness and imagination through the use of hand-written HTML, in a text editor. We do not see why, because your pages may be located on 'free space', they should be treated any differently.

It is difficult to break the AUP without actually knowing you're doing it. So don't be scared off by this, continue as per normal, and contact us if you have any worries.
Thanks very much for reading this through.
